Helping our local Scouting community

Back to blog

Challenge: Stotfold Scout Group website was feeling dated, and wasn’t able to be updated by anybody except the retiring Group Scout Leader. Not able to be viewed on mobiles by the Scouts, and modern parents who relied on the site to be kept up to date with forthcoming events, and view photos of previous activities. The Central Group approached us to see if we could inject some excitement into it, and make it easier to navigate around the site for all ages, across all devices, whilst not loosing the now famous level of photographic content the old site contained.

Solution: We created a modern, fully responsive WordPress website  for the group, and set up customised access for people of varying permission levels across Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Central Group and Supporters Associations. The front page dynamically created the latest story about young people as a hero post (and group and admin posts kept off the hero area). We customised an calendar app to perform exactly as the group needed – showing activities on a shared calendar split by colour, and filtered by varying categories.

Results: The website now attracts 260% more repeat visits than before, bounce rates are down to <20% from 85%. And length of time on site is up by over 3 minutes per session. Proving that the new website offers the local community and Scouts’ friends and families a website that’s engaging, responsive and informative. Both the Leaders and Scouts agree that functionality and ease of navigation is vastly improved, and to top it off, leaders can now update the blog live from campsites, from their phones. Bringing scouting bang up to date.
