WE CAN break a world record (sort of)

“I need you to go shopping, I need a hula-hoop, 18 big girls’ bras, 2 packets of chewing gum, 50 eggs, 6 Jaffa Cakes, 1.66 Bananas, a pack of Post-It-Notes, a pack of apples, 3 Tangerines, an office chair, 4 juggling balls, 12 dice and some safety glasses.”

Why you ask? The first PechaKucha 20×20 ever held in Bedford took place on the 7th November, and we said “WE CAN do that”!

PechaKucha 20×20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. (Find out more here) The images advance automatically and you talk along to the images. All you need is an idea for the talk. So what was our idea? Well somebody once said our name sets us up for a fall, as there are clearly some things we  can’t do, such as breaking a world record! We don’t like failure, so this got our gander up, and from there on in we set out to prove them wrong, and PechaKucha gave us the perfect chance (sort of).

As Guinness don’t do 20 second records normally, we set about unearthing 20 x one minute world records, and dividing them by 3 to get to the required 20 second format… voila!

The aim was, with some hilarity, to try and break a third of 20 world records in 20 slides… with the aim of actually achieving one or two along the way. But not just any old World Records, the most bizarre and ridiculous ones, and ones we could actually try and do!

And we actually beat the world record holder for sit-ups in 20 seconds, and bananas eaten! How about that, WE CAN break a world record (sort of)!

We were the final act of the evening, meaning we had to follow 11 other utterly brilliant and inspiring talks, some personal, and some inspiring. But they were very hard acts to follow!

WE CAN Creative invest their own time in new challenges, and where we don’t have the specialist skills, we draw on our collective years of industry experience to ensure that we don’t say “we can’t”, and ensure for our clients that “WE CAN”. So for this we had to recruit a bubblegum blower, as our attempts resulted in spitting out chewed gum at high velocity. Well, you can’t do everything.

Until the video is released by PechaKucha on their website, we’ll leave you to guess what some of them were… answers on a postcard, or in the comments…
